The Emerging Cinema Markets Conference 2019 (ECM19) successfully returned to Istanbul this November. Building on the huge success of last year's inaugural event, the conference featured a mix of keynote speakers and presentations from industry experts in the cinema, leisure and property sectors.

ECM2019 focussed on the continent of Africa, Turkey, our host nation, and New Europe (the Balkans and former Soviet states), Central Asia and the GCC. In combination they present a market opportunity of 1.7 billion people served by only 6,850 active cinema screens!

These are at an early stage in their growth and development, but in combination they offer a significant opportunity for investors, studios, distributors, exhibitors and the specialist supply chains to the industry.



ABOUT THE EVENT

Cinema going today is a global and dynamic phenomenon, with growing annual box office returns of $40.0 billion increasingly evenly spread across the world.

With the rapid development of the industry in Latin America, Africa and the Asia-Pacific region, the cinema operators involved recognise the extent to which the business opportunities and policy challenges they face – such as film theft, technology standards, theatrical release practices, international trade practices and the highly valued relationship with partners in film distribution – are shared by counterparts across territories.

The Emerging Markets in Africa, New Europe, Central Asia, and the GCC are at an early stage in the growth and development of their cinema markets, but in combination they offer a significant opportunity for investors, studios, distributors, exhibitors and the specialist supply chains to the industry.

Africa is the world's second largest and second most-populous continent. It covers 6% of Earth's total surface area and 20% of its land area. With over 1.2 billion people and a median age of 19.7 years as of 2016, it accounts for around 16% of the world's human population, but a nominal amount of the global box office, principally as a result of limited access to cinema screens.

70% of worldwide economic growth is forecast in Emerging Markets. ECM2019 will explore opportunities in the regions, the challenges (including technical and political) and how cinema suppliers, operators and producers can grow their business.

ECM2019 had an outsanding line up of international keynote speakers for a wide variety of areas, sharing in depth knowledge and experience of operating within the emerging markets.

West Africa is a vastly under-screened area, with only 1 screen per 1.5 million people.

Nigeria is a key regional player in West Africa, with an English-speaking population of approximately 197 million, which accounts for about 47% of West Africa's population, and has one of the largest populations of youth in the world.

A federation that consists of 36 autonomous states, Nigeria is a multi-ethnic and culturally diverse society. With an abundance of resources, it is Africa's biggest oil exporter, and also has the largest natural gas reserves on the continent.


Ghana sits on the Atlantic Ocean and borders Togo, Cote d'Ivoire, and Burkina Faso.

It has a population of about 29.6 million (2018). In the past two decades, it has taken major strides toward democracy under a multi-party system, with its independent judiciary winning public trust.

Ghana consistently ranks in the top three countries in Africa for freedom of speech and press freedom, with strong broadcast media, and radio the medium with the greatest reach. Factors such as these provide Ghana with solid social capital.

If you would like to sponsor either show reel you will have your own content added to the playlist and will be credited on screen. Sponsorship also includes half page advert in the programme and the opportunity to have company literature in the networking area. 2 delegate pass will also be included.

Price: Sponsorship package at €2,500 per show reel or €3,500 to have both show reels. We would also consider a reduced rate for a company who can produce the show reels on behalf of the conference.
